Department of Pharmacy, Central University of Rajasthan
The Department of Pharmacy at the Central University of Rajasthan (CURaj), was established in year 2012 with the aim to excel in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, stands as a beacon of excellence in pharmaceutical education and research, proudly holding the 27th-29th ranking consistently in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for last three years- NIRF ranking 27 in 2023, NIRF ranking 29 in 2024, NIRF ranking 27 in 2025. The programs run by the department are approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). The department offers a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) syllabus with Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) programs in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmacy. The Department has various ongoing extramural funded projects of more than 1250 lakhs from different agencies of the Government of India such as DST, NRDC, ICMR and DBT, SPARC etc.
Research at the Department
Research is a cornerstone of the Department of Pharmacy. The department is a Department of Science and Technology (DST)-FIST recognized department with more than 4 crores of research funding from various funding agencies like DST, Science and Engineering Research Board, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Biotechnology, University Grants Commission (UGC), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and DST-Rajasthan. The average research funding per faculty member is 178.6 lakhs. The departmental faculty members are holding a total of 04 patents and have published over 375 publications in reputed journals with an average impact factor of 3.48. The total citations of the department are 7076 with an impressive h-index of 44. The research areas of the department are drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, drug design, computational chemistry, phytochemistry and nanotechnology. Two of the faculty members have bagged international recognition in the form of American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Award and American Association of Indian Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAiPS) Award. One faculty member has bagged the coveted national awards like ICMR-Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize 2020 and National Technical Teacher’s Award 2022. At the university level also the awards of Best Teacher and Best Researcher have been bagged by the departmental teachers. Four faculty members of the department are amongst the top 2% cited scientists worldwide (as per the Stanford University published in Mendeley Data, Elsevier), showcasing the quality of research published. Many of the faculty members are on the editorial boards of reputed journals like PLOS One, Frontiers in Pharmacology and Drug Delivery Letters.
Students and Placements
The department is able to attract quality students from almost all the states and UTs of the country with almost 48% males and 52% females. Majority of the M. Pharm. students are GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) qualified and receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 12,400/- by the UGC. Majority of the PhD students are also receiving the fellowships from CSIR and ICMR. Two of the PhD scholars have been awarded the reputed Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship. The students/scholars of the department are the backbone of the research and have various national and international awards to their credit. The placement profile of the department is marvelous and M. Pharm. pass-outs are serving various government and multinational organizations with a handsome salary. The PhDs of the department are also well placed. For instance, one of our PhD scholars is serving the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Guwahati as Regular Assistant Professor and numerous scholars have been able to grab prestigious post-doctoral fellowships in various foreign research institutes like University of Capetown South Africa, University of Warsaw, Poland, North Dakota State University, University of Texas Heath Science, University of Southern California and University of Connecticut, USA
