The Department of Environmental Science came into existence under the School of Earth Sciences at the Central University of Rajasthan in July 2011. The Master's programme in Environmental Science was started as the flagship program of the department with the immediate effect. In the following Academic year 2013-2014, Integrated M.Sc. (5-year program) and full-time PhD programmes were introduced in the department. All the programmes follow the Choice-based Credit System (CBCS) consists of core and elective courses. Students' evaluation consists of continuous assessment throughout the semester.

Department of Environmental Science is committed to providing all students with an excellent educational and research experience that includes real-life environmental problem solving, and field and laboratory work using tools of remote sensing, nanotechnology, ecology, environmental biotechnology, and chemistry. Looking at the present scenario and futuristic needs, the department has been established with the objectives:

  • To impart knowledge of environmental problems on a regional and global scale.
  • To train the students for scientific analysis of environmental components for efficient environmental decision making and management.
  • To act as an interface between academia and organization for interdisciplinary collaboration for environmental research.

Department of Environmental Science also actively participate in the extracurricular activities as follows:

Program Objectives

1. Impart basic knowledge about the environment and its allied problems at the local, regional and global scale.

2. Train the students in scientific analyses of environmental components and its management.

3. Provide practical training on modern instrumentation and analytical techniques for environmental analyses.

4. Prepare for global competence for career options in research fellowship program, education, research, industries, consultancy, environmental journalism, etc.

5. Understanding the impacts of climate change, environmental pollution and mitigation strategies.

Program Outcomes After completion of the program, students will be able to:

1. Use the concepts and methods of ecological, biological, chemical, geological, glaciological and geospatial sciences to solve environmental problems.

2. Apply environmental concepts and methodologies to analyze and understand the interactions between social and environmental processes.

3. Evaluate environmental impacts and assessment using multidisciplinary and advanced approaches.

4. Achieve proficiency in conducting interdisciplinary research and communication skills.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of legal policies, regulatory and ethical considerations relating to the environment.

6. Understand essential mathematical and statistical approaches used to analyze environmental data and apply analytical techniques to solve environmental problems.
