The Central University of Rajasthan commensurates with the Department of Commerce in 2012 to provide flexible, innovative academic and research programmes and support structures that are responsive to a broad range of learners and regional needs. The world is witnessing a high-tech revolution with changes in science, technology, commerce, and industry. The world now believes that knowledge is everything. With the opening up of the world economy by way of globalization, liberalization and privatization processes, all the business sectors are witnessing tremendous growth. The whole economy is undergoing a tremendous transformation with many new sunrise sectors like financial services, consultancies, etc coming up. The service sector is outstripping the manufacturing sector in growth. A career in these sectors involves challenging work, high growth opportunities, lucrative pay packets, and a professionally challenging work environment. The job market is undergoing a metamorphosis. This is creating a huge demand for careers in Commerce and Business. This has led to the huge change in the way we teach and deliver business studies courses.

The corporate world is dynamic and the changes are so severe that a series of new concepts and techniques are fast coming into being and the earlier and traditional ones are becoming obsolete. This situation has given rise to the need for restructuring the curricula of Commerce education at all levels so as to make it meaningful and compatible with the changing business scenario and introduce the concepts and techniques among the commerce teachers to further channelize and streamline their contribution. By introducing more and more professional skills, we need the output of graduates and researchers to be of the best quality in the world.

M. Com.

Objectives of the program

The M.Com. course is offered with Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) thus facilitating the students to have 24 Courses of 96 Credits spread over 4 semesters for mastering the subject for the award of Master degree in Commerce by acquiring the required depth and at the same time to select elective courses of his/her choice and based on his/her aptitude from four elective group of courses.  The syllabus also includes two open courses (each carrying 4 Credits) of inter disciplinary nature out of which each shall be offered in 2nd and 3rd semester in order to suit the needs and interest of the students. To be precise, the objectives of M.Com. programme are as under:-

  • To provide foundation for further advanced studies and research in the area of Commerce such as M.Phil. and PhD. programmes.
  • To allow M.Com. Graduates to choose for further advanced studies in different specialisation of Commerce such as Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Human Resource, Marketing etc.
  • To enable M. Com. Graduates for a wide range of career dealing with the flow of money, from accountant to investment banker, money manager to personal finance consultant.
  • To enable master graduates in Commerce to qualify UGC-NET/SET and JRF examinations so that they can take-up the work of teaching or research of high quality.
  • To impart entrepreneurial skills for starting new business ventures.

B.Com. (Hons.)/B.Com. under 10+2+3 pattern securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate including all subjects studied at B.Com. level except those subjects where only pass marks are required and which do not contribute to the total in the final (degree) mark sheet. No student shall be eligible for admission to any course of study of this University on migration from any other University or Board unless he has passed an examination equivalent to the examination of this University prescribed by the Ordinances for admission to the concerned course of this University: Provided that the application for admission shall be supported by:-

A migration certificate or a no objection certificate from the concerned University or Board; and Provided further that the application of a student who has not completed his course of study of any other University may be considered for admission to a course of this University, if the pattern and syllabi are similar, subject to fulfillment of conditions and provisions, if any, regarding transfer of credits etc., which may be prescribed by Regulations in this regard.

Every student admitted to a Department or a Centre or an Institution maintained by the University shall be enrolled by the University on receipt of an application for enrolment from him/her duly forwarded by the concerned Head of the Institution:

Provided that the application for enrolment shall be supported by:-

(a)   Mark sheet of qualifying examination, in original

(b) Migration certificate or no objection certificate, in original; and

(c)   Fee, as prescribed by the University.

Program outcomes:

Commerce students will be able to demonstrate progressive development in the areas of accounting, finance, taxation, business law, auditing and general management and will be able to recognize and the player in business, entrepreneurship, management, consultancy, banking, insurance and investment management and also will be able to prove their efficiency in career development like CA, CS, ICWA etc. Students will be able to cater the manpower needs of the academics and industries through developing the managerial skills along with the competency building in areas of business studies, commerce and management with exercising professional skills, values and integrated learning for the overall development in their efficiency and effectiveness.

Eligibility:

The University shall decide, on an annual basis, the maximum number of candidates to be admitted to the programme, which shall be announced in advance in a notification and on the website. Admission to the Ph.D. programme will be made twice a year, preferably in the beginning of each semester. The candidates with at least 55% marks, in aggregate, in their Master’s Degree in the subject concerned / allied / cognate subjects shall appear for a written test conducted by the University to be followed by an interview to be conducted by the concerned Department. After assessing the appropriateness of the subject in which the candidate has a master’s degree to the field of proposed study, the candidates will be selected according to the merit as determined after giving suitable weightage to the following (a) Percentage of marks in qualifying Master’s degree or equivalent (50% weightage); for every one percent of total marks over and above fifty five percent, 1.1 (one point one) weightage shall be awarded to a candidate.

(b) All eligible applicants will be ranked on the basis of NET MERIT computed by assigning weightage of 50 % to aggregate master’s Degree score and 30 % weightage to entrance test score. The University will then decide on a suitable multiple of the vacancies who would be called for a personal interview. Performance in the entrance test and interview (50% weightage- 30% for entrance test and 20% for interview). The Ph. D. entrance test in a subject shall consist of two PARTS: PART A will test a candidate’s General Ability / Aptitude and PART B will test subject specific knowledge. The Vice-Chancellor shall constitute appropriate Committees, at the University and Departmental levels for conducting the Test and interview respectively. During the interview, the Departmental Committee may make a provisional allocation of selected applicants to the eligible supervisors. Candidates who have qualified themselves in any of the National Level Ph.D. eligibility test such as NET-JRF / GATE (PhD Level) / who have passed M. Phil. programme with / without course work are required to apply and should also appear for the Entrance Test prescribed by Central University of Rajasthan.

All eligible NET-JRF / GATE (PhD Level) applicants will be called for the personal interview. Generally such candidates will be preferred to non-JRF candidates. Teacher Fellowship holders shall be exempted from appearing for the written test. Such applicants may be considered as supernumerary but will be required to apply and appear for the personal interview.
